Naira Marley – Soapy

Naira Marley “Soapy” is his sixth single of 2019 and it was released just days after his release from prison after the order of the Ikoyi high court.

This song after its release created a lot of controversies as people were divided on their opinions about the message in the song. A lot of criticism was sent the way of Naira Marley as people felt the song was encouraging masturbation amongst youths while others opined that it was never encouraging masturbation as it’s just a song that was dropped to make listeners feel good and forget every sorrow that bothers their state of mind. Rexxie once again produces this sound which many are considering as a serious contender for song of the year.

This song was dropped exactly on the 27th of June, 2019 to an amazingly-awesome reception from Nigerian music fans. The song didn’t come only with the video but was accompanied by a dance step called “Soapy” dance which is currently trending nationwide.

It’s also showing signs of breaking a national barrier by creeping to other African countries. “Soapy’s” video was directed by fast-rising video director, TG Omori who has worked with superstars such as Wizkid, Olamide, etc. The video was published on YouTube on the 9th of August, 2019 and in just three weeks, it has garnered over 3 million views

3. Naira Marley x Zlatan – Am I A Yahoo Boy

Naira Marley – Am I A Yahoo Boy

Naira Marley x Zlatan “Am I A Yahoo Boy” would absolutely pass for one of the most significant songs Naira Marley would ever release in his music career.
The song which itself is a controversial one led to a lot of other controversial events in the Nigerian music scene.

The Rexxie produced song which many have said to be the main reason he was picked up by the EFCC is a definite smash hit. After Simi and Naira Marley had a little social media brouhaha concerning internet fraud (Yahoo Boys) in Nigeria, the singer/rapper quickly released the song which features his friend and colleague, Zlatan Ibile.

The song was well accepted by the youths and immediately became one of the biggest hit songs that the Nigerian music industry would experience in 2019. It is also worthy of note that the song gets limited airplay on radio or out-rightly gets isolated by some stations due to its unimpressive and derogatory lyrics as many believe it is a song that gives encouragement to internet fraudsters.

A couple of weeks ago, Naira Marley teased a new single, asking fans if he should drop the record immediately or next month. It seems he chose to oblige those who voted for it to be released sooner rather than later, as he now released “Pxta”.

Rexxie is undoubtedly the hardest working Nigerian beatsmith this year, having produced all of Naira Marley’s monster hits, as well as Teni’s “Sugar Mummy” and DMW’s “On God”. So, it comes as no surprise that Naira Marley enlisted him again.

Naira Marley opens “Pxta” by proclaiming that Nigerian women are out to get him. Calling out girls who claim to love him so they can get to his money, Naira Marley calls his baby girl a “Puta” (Spanish for “prostitute”) because she gets around.

In terms of the music, while the crass content is unsurprising, we must say that “Puta” isn’t even Naira Marley at his best. Fortunately for him, his cheeky character has earned him a cult following amongst Nigerian youth, so we’re sure this song will make the rounds.
